Year Six

Welcome to Year 6!

The Year 6 team for this year is Mr Wilson, Mrs Clark, Mrs Hatton and Mr Brawn. Mrs Draper will also be teaching in Year 6 on a Friday.

The children will have PHSCE lessons with Mrs Hurren and Spanish lessons with Miss Perez.

We are all looking forward to working with you to ensure that the children have a wonderful final year at primary school and finish the year feeling both ready and excited for secondary school.

On this page, you will find key information about our routines, expectations and curriculum. This includes our knowledge organisers. Knowledge organisers outline what the children will be learning in each term across each subject. They include key facts and vocabulary for the children to discuss with you and practise recalling at home. By the end of each unit of learning, they need to be able to explain these facts and vocabulary to others confidently. We hope you find them a useful way to engage with what your child is learning!

If you need to contact a member of the team for support, questions or concerns, please email us at y6@st-marysfields.leicester.sch.uk. We are also available at the start and end of the school day to talk to you in person or can be contacted by phone via the school office.

Key information and expectations

Please look at the presentation below for key information and expectations.

PE lessons are on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit and remembers to remove any jewellery.

Routines

Start of the day

8:40am – 8:50am

The children should come into school via the small gate near the school’s car park.

They should walk straight up to their classroom at this time.

The gates will close promptly at 8:50am. Any children arriving in class after this time will need to enter via the Office and will be marked as late.

Break time

10:30am

The children may bring a healthy snack (such as fruit, carrot sticks, rice cakes, a low-sugar cereal bar) from home to eat at this time.

All snacks must be nut-free.

Lunch time

12:15pm

Children can bring a healthy packed lunch or have a school dinner.

Please see below for this year’s school dinner menu.

End of the day

3:15pm

The children will be dismissed from the small gate near the school’s car park.

They will need to be collected by a parent or carer unless permission has been provided for them to walk home on their own.

Knowledge Organisers

Thursday 18th January

Good morning Year 6!

As we are unable to be in school today, we have set up some tasks for you to try at home. We will continue with our lessons on Algebra and Pig Heart Boy when we return - for today we want you to simply practice your fluency skills.

ENGLISH

 - Read your book! We will be collecting your Reading Records in when we return and would love to see everyone having read today. Remember to write a gist to say what you have read!

 - Practice your Spellings. You can use the techniques you know to practice them or woul can try to write them in sentences to show the meaning. This week our words are:

Referring

Preferring

Transference

 - Persuade someone at home to let you do something. Think about the language we have been using in school; how could you be demanding, factual and emotional to convince whoever is with you to let you get your way? You can write down your ideas in your Homework book if you wish.

MATHS

 - Go on Times Table Rock Stars and practice your tables.

 - Have a go at the Arithmetic sheet attached to the website below. Give yourself no more than 30 minutes to see how many you can do. There are answers provided for when you are done. Remember the last 4 questions are worth 2 marks each!

 - If you want to practice your Algebra skills, there is a Substitution worksheet attached below and a link to a video lesson.

If you have your CGP books at home, you can also complete some pages in those.

We hope to see you back in school very soon!
