The early years classrooms at St Mary’s Field’s Academy have been transformed to create calm and inspiring environments that support children’s wellbeing, learning and development.

The refurbishment forms part of the school’s wider work with the successful L.E.A.D Academy Trust, which it joined in 2024, to deliver the highest quality early years education. The bright, calm classrooms offer open and welcoming spaces where children are encouraged to play and explore. Softer lighting, natural materials and improved flooring complete the transformation, creating environments that are both practical and homely.

As part of the project, the school has also introduced a new sensory room within the early years’ corridor. This dedicated space offers further opportunities for sensory exploration and emotional regulation, strengthening support for children with diverse needs and enhancing inclusive practice across the school.

The refreshed spaces are already making a real difference, giving pupils the confidence to explore, play and learn. Designed to support a wide range of learning opportunities, from play-based exploration to collaborative and self-directed activities, pupils are thriving in classrooms that are as practical as they are inspiring. Both staff and parents have praised the transformation, highlighting how calm, bright and engaging the spaces are

Helen Nott, Headteacher of St Mary’s Fields Academy, said:

“Creating the right environment for our youngest children is incredibly important – everything we do is about helping them thrive and the great teaching our brilliant team deliver is enhanced by these wonderful new spaces. Since the refurbishment, the classrooms are calmer and more welcoming, and the children love them. It’s been so pleasing to see how positively both pupils and families have responded.”
