National Child Measurement Programme – Support for parents and carers

The National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) measures the height and weight of children in reception class (aged 4 to 5 years) and year 6 (aged 10 to 11 years) to assess overweight and obesity levels in children within primary schools.

For some parents, receiving the results letter from the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) can come as a bit of a shock. After all, nationally around a third of children are overweight by the time they leave primary school, which means its harder for parents to identify when children fall into this category as they may not look that different to their peers.

Some resources are available on the parents section of the Health for Kids website (www.healthforkids.co.uk), including frequently asked questions relating to the NCMP and advice about encouraging physical activity.
