Updated Information on the School’s response to Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to update you on the school’s plans going forward regarding Coronavirus

What we have been doing in school

We have been doing a number of things to help reduce the spread of coronavirus in school and this has included:

  • Vastly increased handwashing/gelling routines & regular reminders, handwashing assembly by the school nursing team
  • Refocusing of cleaning routines on high frequency contact areas throughout the day
  • Contingency planning by senior leaders

Latest Medical Advice

The government have issued the following advice for everyone:

We are asking anyone who shows certain symptoms to self-isolate for 7 days, regardless of whether they have travelled to affected areas. This means we want people to stay at home and avoid all but essential contact with others for 7 days from the point of displaying mild symptoms, to slow the spread of infection.

The symptoms are:

  • A high temperature (37.8 degrees and above)
  • A new, continuous cough
  • You do not need to call NHS 111to go into self-isolation. If your symptoms worsen during home isolation or are no better after 7 days contact NHS 111 online at
  • If you have no internet access, you should call NHS 111. For a medical emergency dial 999.

If you or your child are displaying the symptoms above, please follow the advice and do not come into school for 7 days from the point of displaying symptoms. Please call the school office and inform them of the reasons.

If you, your child or someone you come into contact with has an underlying health condition that may be affected, please take medical advice on how best to manage contact.

Changes to School Activities

We have contacted Health and Safety at the local authority regarding the continuation of swimming and school trips which are booked in the next few weeks. As soon as the school receives advice, we will inform you of any decisions made.

Potential School Closures

At the moment the Government has made it clear that they do not intend to order the closure of schools. However, with the change to directing people to self-isolate as detailed in the section above, we may in a position whereby we do not have enough staff in school to run it safely. In the event of this happening will be a last resort and our intention is to support you in continuing with your work commitments and the children’s learning for as long as is practicable. In the event of the school closing, we will inform you via our usual communication

Continuing Learning in the Event of School Closure

The school are currently investigating ways to enable the continuation of learning at home in the event of a school closure. Please advise the school office by next Wednesday if your child does not have access to technology to complete work online (tablet/laptop) so that we can explore potential alternatives

I hope that you will be supportive our actions in this difficult period. We will continue to closely monitor developments and advice and update you as quickly as possible with any further information

Yours sincerely

R Dulieu
